JOURNALISM
Some of my favorite stories are this piece about a quirky law that gave Eliot Spitzer his power and these two pieces about the scam known as US News' college rankings. I've also enjoyed writing about common law and civil law, as well as Burma---whether it's ex CIA officials who become lobbyists for the regime, or whether what's happening in the border regions really counts as genocide. Another favorite topic is appropriate medical technology in Africa---whether it's wheelchairs that actually work, or glasses that one can self adjust.
Of my news stories, I liked writing this one about Skype in its early days (happy to be right!), this one about the psychological affects of the curse of the bambino on the Red Sox (glad to be wrong!), and this one about the surprising place that processes the tickets I get for disorderly conduct in Prospect Park. At The Washington Monthly, I liked getting to write about the politicization of science, and the early impact of the Internet on campaigning. For wonky stuff, I liked trying to figure out if patents are really slowing down pharmaceutical innovation and I'm a passionate advocate of Dvorak keyboards.
95 percent of what I do now is editing, though. For a few examples of the kinds of things I work on there, click here.
